Google Chrome Spell Checking does not work

So allot of people have come across this issue but few have actually found a solid solution.
Here is a list of suggestions / fixes that actually work:

  1. Update your Chrome version and restart
  2. Make sure that spell checking is indeed enabled for the language in question
  3. Disable all your Chrome Extensions or open a new Incognito Window and try
There is a very peculiar case where some languages other than the "default" English, do not get spell checking but English does! and what's more strange is that spell checking only works for these languages, in Incognito Window!

I searched and searched to find out why that happened and the solution was easy but somewhat unexpected.

  • On your computer, open Chrome.

    1. In the top right, click the Menu Chrome menu.
    2. Click Settings.
    3. At the bottom of the page, click Show advanced settings.
    4. Use a web service to help resolve spelling errors  (make sure this is unchecked!)
If this option was checked, uncheck it and restart chrome!

For reasons that are beyond me, this google spell checking service may indeed improve the English Spell Checking but disable the spell checking in some other languages (of which Greek is included).

If you know a way to have both Greek Spell Checking and this Option Enabled, please do provide the solution in the comments!

I hope this article can save someone the hassle and frustration I went through while searching for the reason my spell checking was not working properly...
